This 5-day Classic Kruger and Sabi Sand Combo fits the bill for nature-lovers who are short on time, but want to make the most out of their safari experience in South Africa. This well-organised itinerary allows for a varied game viewing experience in two premier wildlife destinations. No fuss, no hassle.
This Classic Kruger and Sabi Sand Safari Combo has been carefully designed to incorporate two of the country’s top wildlife destinations. If you’re super-serious about coming to South Africa just to see its wild animals, then this is the itinerary for you.
It’s a 5-day safari holiday that runs like clockwork, with scheduled morning and evening game drives and bush walks on request. There is nothing you need to worry about, besides making sure your camera is fully charged and ready to roll.
The add-on of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve to the Kruger is what really makes this combo so dynamic, especially as tracker-guides can take you off-road on game drives, and the chances of seeing leopards in the region are particularly high. With all of your accommodation, transport and activities included, you can kick back, make the most of your time and truly appreciate the magic of this incredible wildlife haven.
Starting off in the Kruger with a direct flight from Johannesburg, this itinerary kicks-off with a bang, or rather, a shutter snap, as you make your way via road transfer to a private luxury safari lodge. Lucky sightings to and from camp are common, so it’s best to always be camera-ready. A scheduled afternoon drive on this first day will double your viewing chances.
This itinerary is specifically well-suited for first timers, or return safari-aficionados keen to get their annual game viewing fix and return to that carefree style of lodge living. Over the next two nights, you’ll enjoy nature at its most raw, but with all the comfort to go along with it. In between game drives, relaxation is the order of the day, be it in your private suite, or pool-side with a crisp gin and tonic in hand.
While tracker guides can’t take you off-road during 4x4 game drives, the gravel paths that cut through the Kruger are well-extended and plentiful, and there is always efficient communication between tracker teams on where the sightings are. This means that your guides can get you straight into the heart of all the wildlife action in no time at all.
Bush walks are also available upon request, and will reward you with a varied and intimate experience with the African wild. Not only do you get to stretch out your legs, but you can take the time to really study the smaller (often missed) details of the bush, which your experienced and armed tracker-guide will help point out to you.
After one last morning game drive in the Kruger (and a hearty breakfast), the Sabi Sand Game Reserve awaits you, just one road transfer away. Since there will be a game drive scheduled for this afternoon, you can take some time beforehand to settle into your private suite, and get your bearings at Idube Game Reserve.
The Sabi is well-known for its exclusive lodge accommodation and Idube really sets the bar in this regard. Those private verandas overlooking the untamed bush, along with traditional lantern lit boma dinners are hard to compete with. Over the next two nights, you’ll also indulge some of the most incredible game viewing, and with luck on your side, some leopard sightings too.
No two days are ever the same on a safari in the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve, but game drives embark similarly to those in the Kruger: Early morning and late afternoon.
One of the biggest differences between these two areas is that your tracker-guides can take visitors off-road in the Sabi to enhance the game viewing experience. Since the area is smaller than the Kruger, animals are generally found within close proximity, so the chances are, you’ll see more over a shorter amount of time.
But, it is always important to remember that these are wild animals who roam freely and by their own accord, so sightings are never guaranteed.
After one last morning game drive and a farewell breakfast, take a moment for some last minute curio shopping at Idube for something special to take back home with you.
A road transfer with take you back the airport near the Kruger for your scheduled flight back to Johannesburg. But, if you are not ready for your holiday to end there, we can very easily extend your trip with a stop in Cape Town, or perhaps even a few days longer in the Kruger.
